Wounded Warriors Hunt

Months back, Carrington mentioned to us that they were working with The Wounded Warrior Project to team up with a pair of veterans and kill some birds!  All of us were very excited to host these guys!  Chris and Matt are U.S. Marines, wounded in combat, and both are awaiting discharge.  They share the same love for the outdoors as we do, but neither had been waterfowl hunting before.  Like most of us, we were brought up deer hunting, so there were plenty of stories to be told in the blind.

With cold weather keeping ponds frozen solid, Stuart put the ice-eater into service several weeks back.  The birds had moved back in, keeping the upper end of the pond free of ice......a very promising sign.  We met up Saturday morning with milder temps around 30 degrees and headed into the blind.  Carrington and Stuart's thinking was that we would have a flurry of ducks at first light, and a lull before the geese arrived.  Much to our surprise, we had a steady duck show until the geese arrived and still had a few ducks working late with the geese....  We ended up with 14 mallards, 1 black duck and 17 geese.  It was a hunt we'll never forget!

Chris and Matt, we and our families appreciate your service and the sacrifices you have made....Thank you.
